SMALL STEPS CAN LEAD TO BIG CHANGES
Some of the classic symptoms of depression and low mood may include some of the following:
The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) guidelines recommend therapy ahead of medication for mild to moderate low mood and depression. Solution Focused Hypnotherapy is a talking therapy that has the added benefit of using hypnosis which works with the subconscious mind, allowing and embedding a level of positive, focused attention.
January is historically a difficult month for many people, following on from Christmas and the New Year festivities. Many of us find the colder, darker winter months challenging and they can seriously affect our mood and how we feel, causing us to feel ‘depressed’. However, low mood can happen at any time of year, and it can sneak up on us without us realising.
The NHS website advises that ‘The symptoms of depression can be complex and vary widely between people. If you're depressed, you may feel sad, hopeless and lose interest in things you used to enjoy. The symptoms persist for weeks or months and are bad enough to interfere with your work, social life and family life.’ It is important to see your GP if you are experiencing these symptoms for most of the day, every day for more than 2 weeks.
Contact a GP as soon as possible, or call 999, if you're feeling suicidal or are in the crisis of depression.
If you cannot or do not want to contact a GP, call the Samaritans on 116 123 (the helpline is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year). You can also email jo@samaritans.org.
There are many things that contribute to low mood and depression, and as we are all individuals, consequently it is different for everyone. Invariably there is no single cause, rather several life events and contributory factors. These may include bereavement, stress, loneliness, family history, illness, menopause, work, relationship difficulties…you name it, the list is endless.
At Hook Hypnotherapy Practice the first step to moving forward is the FREE initial consultation. This is your opportunity to tell me as much or as little about why you are seeking support through hypnotherapy. Together we will explore what life would look like if things were different, and that becomes the focus of sessions moving forward. Most clients find it hugely beneficial to understand how the brain works and how it affects our feelings, and consequently our behaviour. I will also share some fascinating insights around how the brain works in the FREE initial consultation. It is not unusual for this alone to make a big difference to how my clients feel – once you understand the power of the brain, you can also start to understand how you can make the changes you need to for yourself.
Hypnosis is not something that is ‘done’ to you. Hypnotherapy is a collaborative experience, one where with support and understanding, using solution focused questioning and talk, you can start to find you way back to being yourself, and developing strategies to help when life throws you a curve ball. How you experience the hypnosis part of the therapy session is different for everyone. Some describe it as a deeply relaxing daydream; most are surprised how quickly the time goes by and find it very relaxing, leaving my sessions feeling calm, refreshed and motivated.
So, if your question is still ‘Will hypnotherapy work for me?’, the most important thing to know is that success is not linked to your belief that you can change, more to your motivation and desire for things to be different. If you want things to change, then with the right support, change can happen. You have all the resources you need already within yourself. Working with me, and using solution focused talk, and hypnotherapy, I can help you tap into those resources.
If you would like to find out more about how we can work together to make positive changes in your life please either email me at suzanne@hookhypnotherapy.co.uk or call 07833 465487 to arrange a no-obligation 15-minute discovery call and FREE initial consultation.
